As far as we can, we like to join in with activities and events in our local community.
For a number of years we have sponsored the annual Waiters & Waitresses Race in Cromer Carnival week in August, as well as having our own participants in the race itself. This is great fun and, as you can see from the pics, potentially very messy!
The annual Cromer & Sheringham Crab & Lobster Festival enables businesses such as ours to take part in a food trail of eateries in the area, as well as sponsoring the design and decoration of a deckchair in 2011, a windbreak in 2012, a lifebuoy in 2013, a "bootiful boat" in 2014, a ships wheel in 2015, a beach hut in 2016, a porthole in 2017, and a lighthouse in 2018.
Our deckchair won the award for the people’s choice, and we bought it back at auction for charity. It now hangs in the café, along with the windbreak, lifebuoy, boat, wheel, beach hut, and lighthouse - all also bought back at charity auctions at the end of August.
All were designed and painted by local artist Dianne Lindsay, who has become a kind of artist in residence with us. Dianne also won us the first prize rosette in the annual window decoration contests at Christmas 2011, 2016, and 2018. She designs and paints window decorations for us for specific events throughout the year. Her Narnia-themed window for Christmas 2012 got more "likes" and comments on our facebook page than any other post up to that point in time.
We love her work, and her paintings of local scenes are on display for sale in the café.
We are also a big fan of North Norfolk Radio. We play their music (quietly) in the café all day and every day, and regularly take part in their competitions and quizzes. Yes, it gets us a mention – but they play an important role in our community and we like to play our part in that too.
